About the event
HOW TO BE A HOME TEAM VOLUNTOURIST
Voluntourists, whether at home or abroad, know how to ADAPT! Finding ways you can Act, Donate, Advocate, Ponder, and Teach about the Travel for a Cause trip to Krakow, Poland is more important than being on the trip. Why?
Without Voluntourists at home spreading the word, organizing fundraisers, advocating for support to Ukraine, teaching people about the refugee experience, and letting everyone know about the aid work going on in Krakow we wouldn’t be able to have a successful event.
On my first trip to Krakow, I traveled by myself. I was one person doing aid work and posting on social media about what I was seeing. But, thanks to the dozens of Voluntourists back at home who ADAPTed in their own way, $5,000 was raised to purchase supplies for refugees. That turned into $18,000 PLN!
I NEVER would have been able to raise $5,000 on my own. Donations came in on my website and into my venom from people I didn’t even know. All thanks to my Home Team of Voluntourists. Being part of the Home Team means you are responsible for elevating the stories of aid workers, refugees, and Voluntourists that are being reported back to the website and Facebook Groups. You are responsible for spreading the word and driving fundraising efforts. You are responsible for making this trip a success.
You can get started right now. Just RSVP then use the information in this event post to start sharing on social media about the trip. Join our private Facebook Group and follow Fat Mama Travels so you can repost all the updates. This will keep everyone informed about how the trip is progressing. Also, check out the blog, there is tons of great info on how to be a Voluntourist from home.
Without an impactful and talented Home Team our Voluntourists in Krakow will only be able to make a small impression. With your help and amazing talents joining our Home Team we will be able to bring a HUGE donation and empower thousands of Ukrainian refugees this summer!
So please, RSVP and join the Home Team today to drive online action, donations, fundraising, and advocacy. We need your help.
And you know what? Voluntourism looks good on you!
TRIP PARTNERS
On this trip Fat Mama’s Travel for a Cause is partnering with multiple Soroptimist International Clubs (including SI of Krakow and SI of Santa Clara Silicon Valley) and the Municipality of Krakow to provide aid for Ukrainian refugees.
WHO WE ARE HELPING
At the end of this summer, many Ukrainian women and children will be entering their sixth month as refugees. Having spent half a year away from their homes, loved ones, and routines a new normal is starting to set in and that includes the need to start work and school.
Women make up more than 60% of the refugees who have fled Ukraine, and children another 35%. Providing aid through donations, funds, and supplies will help these women and children dream big dreams again and realize those dreams through education and economic stability.
By helping one child we help a mother. By helping a mother, we help a family. By helping a family, we help a community. By helping a community, we help a nation. Please donate generously to help us lift up not just one woman or one family but an entire nation fighting for their freedom.
HOW ARE WE HELPING
As refugees try to create a new sense of normalcy the demand to meet basic daily needs is ever increasing. Without the ability to take care of daily hygiene concerns, no one can be expected to recreate their daily routines around school, higher education, or work. For this reason, to empower women and children to go back to school and work we are focusing our aid efforts on providing care items and school supplies.
We will be raising funds to purchase care products that includes feminine hygiene items (deodorant, pads, tampons, daily panty liners), skin care (Nivea crème, face wash, lotion), hair care (shampoo, conditioner, hairbrushes, styling gel), basic hygiene (toothpaste, body soap, hand sanitizer, toilet paper, diapers, baby wipes), and more.
Additionally, school supplies will also be purchased to empower Ukrainian children to continue working hard on their education. Providing these young Ukrainians, who have already been through unspeakable devastations, with the supplies they need to continue their education will help them to see a brighter future. School supplies will include backpacks, pens, pencils, paper, notebooks, markers, crayons, glue sticks, lunch boxes, and other needed materials.
Once supplies and goods have been obtained our Voluntourists in Krakow, Poland will work to organize, and assemble to the donations. Plans to distribute the donations will be coordinated with our partners. All funds and materials donated will go directly to the benefit of Ukrainian refugees.
